Summer & Joe

Wedding  |  Mount Pleasant, MI  |  May 2015

Tradition says that rain on the day of a wedding is a good omen — depending on the source, it’s said to be a sign of fertility, renewal, and unity…which is all well and good, unless you’re having an outdoor ceremony in a location without a lot of indoor options.  I have to give this couple props though!  Despite the constant state of drizzle outside, both Summer and Joe were calm and rolled with the last minute changes and adaptations to their plans.  Not that I’m particularly surprised — you may recognize these two from their engagement session last summer — this couple is so grounded in their love for one another. Gorgeous details, an energetic wedding party, and a happy crowd of family and friends helped make the day perfectly lovely despite the weather.  I think it’s an even better omen that we were rewarded at the end of the evening with a gorgeous spread of sunset colors.  Congratulations and here’s to many anniversaries (rainy and otherwise)!

Brittany & Colten

Engagement Mini-Session  |  Indianapolis, IN  |  May 2013

It’s officially the start of summer wedding season which means final meetings with all my couples, organization of last minute details, and – in the case of Brittany and Colten – a lovely engagement mini-session. I was a nervous wreck the afternoon of our scheduled session because the skies had opened up and it was raining heavily without much sign of stopping, and our original location was unusable.  Now normally inclement weather doesn’t throw me since we can usually just arrange to meet the next day or the following week, but I unfortunately only had one day in Indianapolis. Yikes! Luckily the rain began to taper off a little just before our meeting, and when I called to discuss options with Brittany she was totally game for a slightly damp shoot in a different location. That – and the lovely couple of hours we spent talking about their wedding and shooting in and around Broad Ripple Village – made me extra excited for their August wedding! I know it’s going to be a beautiful day. . . and even if the weather doesn’t cooperate, I’m happy knowing Brittany and Colten won’t let it ruin their day. I can’t wait!
